Battalion announce a pair of trades

The North Bay Battalion has swung a pair of trades.

The Troops announced today that they have sent defender Pacey Schlueting to the Saginaw Spirit in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2024 OHL priority selection and a 12th round choice in 2023. Schlueting, a North Bay resident, was originally drafted in the 2018 priority selection ninth overall and put up nine assists in 116 games over two seasons with North Bay.

“Pacey is a player who’s grown immensely over the last two seasons, especially in the back half of last year,” said Battalion general manager Adam Dennis. “The Battalion has the utmost respect for him and his family and feels this move will open up opportunities for him to grow as a player and a person. We thank him for his contributions and wish him all the best in Saginaw.”

The second deal saw North Bay send three picks, two third-round OHL Priority Selection picks, in 2021 and 2023, and a 15th-rounder in 2023, all of which are conditional, to the London Knights in exchange for Russian-import player Matvey Guskov. The 19-year-old has registered 60 points in 121 games over two seasons in London.

“The addition of Matvey will add veteran depth to our forward group,” said Dennis. “He’s a very responsible player who brings an unmatched work ethic. We also feel he has an untapped offensive potential which should mesh well with some of our top offensive players. Coming into his third year he’s highly motivated, and we’re thrilled to have him join our group.”

Guskov was originally selected by London in the 2018 CHL import draft and has been drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the fifth round of the 2019 NHL draft.
