22 Wing CFB North Bay taps ONTC president as new honorary colonel

Corina Moore, the president and CEO of Ontario Northland, has been named the new honorary colonel with the 21 Aerospace Control & Warning Squadron.

Lieutenant-Colonel Richard Jolette, 21 Aerospace Control & Warning Squadron Commanding Officer, presided over the ceremony, which was witnessed by members of the squadron, along with 22 Wing/Canadian Forces Base North Bay members through video call.

“We are excited to have Honorary Colonel Corina Moore join the 21 Squadron and 22 Wing teams,” said Jolette. “Her fearless leadership and innovative thinking as the President and CEO of Ontario Northland makes her a perfect fit as the next Honorary Colonel.”

“We look forward to working with Honorary Colonel Moore in the coming years, strengthening the bonds between the City of North Bay, the members of 21 Aerospace Control & Warning Squadron and 22 Wing,” added Jolette.

Officials say an honorary colonel is generally a member of the community who serves for an average term of three years. The idea behind an honorary colonel is to strengthen ties between military elements and their local communities’ businesses, industries, and labour.

“My role is “honorary and advisory” and over the next few years I will apply the same kind of positive energy, passion and innovation towards 21 Aerospace Control & Warning Squadron as I do at Ontario Northland, all the while learning from the personnel and listening to members of 21 Squadron and 22 Wing.”

Military officials add that local honorary colonels have played a big role in creating and sustaining  Armed Forces Day, which is held annually in June. This year’s event has been cancelled, however, due to COVID-19. Aside from Moore, there are two other honorary colonels in North Bay, George Burton, 22 Wing Honorary Colonel, and Jake Lacourse, 51 Aerospace Control & Warning (Operational Training) Squadron Honorary Colonel.
