Bike lanes are coming to Memorial Drive in the near future.
According to Mayor Al McDonald, the plan was adopted by council last year and is part of the City’s active transportation plan.
“You’re going to see some more bike lanes and trails as the plan rolls out,” he explained. “It can be very expensive, so for us, we might not be able to put them everywhere because of the infrastructure but we are doing everything we can.”
“It’s the wave of the future,” McDonald added.
The bike lane on Memorial Drive is going to be a pilot project for the rest of the proposed trails and lanes, according to the Mayor.
“We’re actively trying to promote a healthy and active lifestyle and part of that are bike lanes,” stated McDonald.
McDonald adds that the bike lanes will be for higher speed bikes, compared to the slower speeds on the Kate Pace Way.
Officials expect the lanes to be painted next week, weather permitting, and fully operational in the next two weeks.
