Two car thefts end with charges

A single-vehicle collision in South River has resulted in charges for a Brantford resident.

Almaguin Highlands OPP says the driver of the vehicle had driven it through a backyard of a house on Ottawa Avenue, out to the front yard before crashing into the ditch. Once stopped, the driver left the area.

Police say when they inspected the vehicle; they found it had been stolen earlier that day from elsewhere in South River. After the driver left the area of the collision, they stole a second vehicle from a local business.

The next day, officers say they found the accused and arrested the 25-year-old. They have been charged with:

  • Theft of motor vehicle (two counts)
  • Operation while prohibited
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Careless driving
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Fail to remain
  • Enter premises where entry prohibited

The accused has been released. They will answer to charges before court in Sundridge on August 27.
