Police add e-bikes to fleet

Trek E-bikes are being added to the fleet of vehicles for the North Bay Police Service (NBPS).

The two bikes were presented to NBPS board chairperson Dennis O’Connor from Ryan Farquhar on behalf of Farquhar Motors.

Officials say the bikes are valued at $7,000 each and will be used by the 11 officers who have received specialized training.

“Our trained front line Officers are currently using these new environmentally friendly E-bikes,” said Chief Scott Tod. “They allow us to ride farther, see more, and engage with people in areas of the community we normally do not venture to.”

Police say the bikes were bought locally and have been equipped by police lights and sirens. Capable of reaching speeds of up to 42 kilometres an hour, the bikes will be used for general patrol and can assist in lost person incidents by helping officers check trails and walkways quicker.
