Four new Forest Fires start on July 9

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) is now reporting an additional 4 new fires in the Northeast region adding to yesterday’s 7.
One of those is in the North Bay District, south of Restoule Lake.

MNRF information officer for the Northeast Region, Isabelle Chenard, says that the fire danger levels for the North East Region are between high and extreme, and might get a little higher yet.

“It’s calling for some precipitation throughout the area but very scattered. It could bring down the hazard, but what we’ve seen lately are isolated showers. Some small sections see rain, but only a couple of kilometres away it doesn’t. We’ve seen many lightning fires in the area, but that isn’t abnormal for July and August weather.” she said.

The new fires also include:

• Chapleau 8 was confirmed late this morning on the east shore of McCallum Lake. It measures 0.1 of a hectare.

• Kirkland Lake 5 measures 2.1 hectares and is located approximately 2 kilometres northwest of Turtle Lake.

• Parry Sound 15 is approximately 4 kilometres east of Britt, on the west side of highway 69. Waterbombers were on the scene of this 3.6 hectare fire this afternoon.

In total, there are 23 active fires in the North East region.
