YMCA prepares for Stage 3

The North Bay YMCA fitness centre won’t be allowing indoor classes or use of its equipment right away as most of Ontario prepares to enter Stage 3 of the province’s reopening strategy.

Indoor fitness centres were among the businesses allowed to re-open in Premier Doug Ford’s announcement, Monday.

The YMCA of Northeast Ontario released a statement on its website explaining its plans.

“We know you’re wondering when you too can return to your Y,” they said. “We are thrilled to share that the Premier of Ontario has announced that the community of North Bay and Sudbury are entering stage 3 of reopening on July 17, 2020. We are guided by the direction of recognized health authorities locally and provincially and a clear directive will be required before any YMCA programs or services are reactivated.”

The Y has actively been planning and carefully putting measures in place to prepare for reopening when the time comes.

“We’re following guidelines from health experts and local officials to ensure that our facilities meet the highest standards for hygiene and safety, including modifying programs and facility spaces to maintain safe physical distancing,” the statement read.

The website also says that the YMCA will release its opening date and more details shortly.

The YMCA currently offers outdoor fitness classes for small groups along with virtual fitness classes.

Along with opening up fitness centres, Stage 3 will also allow child care centres to increase capacities from 10 to 15 children. The YMCA says that the remaining spots in its childcare centre will be filled via a priority waitlist.
