North Bay Legions, non-profits to benefit from Trillium grant

Local non-profit organizations are set to benefit from a new Government of Ontario grant.

On August 5, Ontario announced that it pledged $83 million through the Ontario Trillium Foundation to support non-profit organizations recovering from COVID-19. Organizations can apply online to receive up to $150,000 in one-time funding.

Vic Fedeli, Nipissing MPP, says that the region’s Royal Canadian Legion Branches will benefit from the grant.

“The Royal Canadian Legion is a valued part of Ontario’s history and culture and are integral to our communities,” said Fedeli in a statement. “They help us honour our heroes – the soldiers, past and present – of all backgrounds who have fought to protect and uphold our values and freedoms.”

“Our five Legion branches are also integral to Nipissing’s communities – sponsoring local sports, youth and seniors’ programs, and offering a safe, friendly space for community events.” he finished.

The Trillium grant is also intended to help organizations like food banks, shelters, child and youth programs and more.

The provincial government says that non-profit organizations can use the funds to support any changes to operations that the pandemic has brought on, develop new fundraising strategies and cover the cost of renovations or equipment upgrades.
