Voodoos add another local player

The Powassan Voodoos have continued its collecting of local players, signing forward Ethan Masson on Thursday.

Masson has played a majority of his minor hockey in North Bay, also playing one season in Sudbury in 2017-18. Last season, the Callander native notched 31 goals and 25 assists in 33 games with the AAA North Bay Trappers also appearing in two games as a callup for the Voodoos.

The 5’11 Masson says that he is “pumped” to play in his hometown.

Powassan General Manager, Chris Dawson says that he gave Masson a clear message after cutting him from the Voodoos prior to last season.

“Ethan was very close to making our hockey club out of training camp last summer,” Dawson said. “What we told him was to go back to major midget AAA, work hard, have a solid season and be ready to join us in 2020-21 and as his 31 goals prove, he did just that.”

Two of Masson’s Trappers teammates – Alex Little and Owen Wray – have already been signed by the Voodoos. Dawson has previously stated that his focus is to sign local Midget players given the uncertainty of the upcoming season.

The Voodoos and the other teams in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League are still waiting for direction from Hockey Canada and Ontario Hockey Federation to find out when and if the 2020-21 season will start.
