Humane Society’s Barkfest set for Saturday

The Humane Society is ready for pet owners this Saturday as they get ready to host Barkfest 2020.

A Drive-Thru Microchip Clinic, the annual Barkfest sees your pets get a low-cost microchip (size of a grain of rice) embedded just under the skin between the shoulder blades.

Despite its small size, the chip holds important information about the pets, including name, home address, owner’s name, phone numbers as well as medical records.

Information provided is then accessible through a global database which makes it easy for lost pets to be quickly reunited with their family.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the event will look different this year and require pre-registering on the North Bay Humane Society website. Participants will also stay in their car during the chipping procedure, the Humane Society says is quick, painless, and efficient and only cost $25 ($40 for both the microchip and licence).

Participants attending the event will also receive a goodie bag and can enter a “Cutest Pet Contest” held online.

Over 250 area pets have been attending the event since 2017.
