High school sports officially cancelled

There will be no high school sports this fall.

The Near North District School Board, Nipissing Parry Sound District Catholic School Board, the Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord and the Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario have all stated in their respective return-to-school plans that co-curricular sports will not be permitted.

Tim Lowe, President of Nipissing District Athletics, issued a statement on the state of high school sports.

“The N.D.A. fully supports this decision that ensures a safe return to school. We look forward to engaging in meaningful conversation with the stakeholders as to when we can offer the quality sports programming that all our high schools offer,” Lowe states. “Therefore, the N.D.A. will not be operating any Fall leagues or competitions until the local school boards allow those to happen.”

Cross country, football, girls basketball, boys volleyball and golf are among the sports that will not be run this fall.
