Car stolen while idling in driveway, results in brief chase

North Bay Police have located a car that they say was stolen while it was idling in someone’s driveway.

Police received a 911 call on Wednesday of a car that was stolen from someone’s driveway. Officers say the victim left their vehicle idling at their Seventh St. home while they went inside for a brief moment. While inside, police say a 21-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man allegedly got into the vehicle and drove away.

When police got the report, an officer saw the stolen car driving past, and went to pull the vehicle over. Officers say that the driver attempted to flee police on Fisher St., eventually being stopped on Sherbrooke St. where both the driver and passenger were arrested.

The 20-year-old North Bay man is facing charges for theft, dangerous driving, and driving with a suspended license.

He remains in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.

The 21-year-old North Bay woman is facing one charge for vehicle theft.  She will appear in North Bay court on November 10.

As the weather begins to get colder, North Bay Police want to draw the attention of drivers to the fact that “warm-up style” thefts occur as temperatures start to drop.

Here are some tips for drivers:

·  Remain with your vehicle or maintain a view of it whenever it is running

·  Lock your vehicle with a spare key while it idles

·  Buy a remote starter for the vehicle, which locks the doors and prevents the vehicle from being driven away without a key in the ignition
