On the heels of the national Day of Mourning, a Northern Ontario MP is calling on the feds to enforce workplace laws. Carol Hughes of Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing says the laws are there, but they are applied rarely.
Hughes says work related deaths have dropped in developed countries over the past 15 years. But in Canada they’ve increased.
Hughes says there’s no incentive for some employers to follow the rules if they believe they won’t be punished. She says this must change.
