Residents ask council not to allow opening burning

Several hundred North Bay residents ranging in age from 21 to 97 have signed a petition asking council to keep a ban on open wood burning.  Spokeswoman Anne Moffat says open burning is a recreational activity that causes health problems.  In addition to smoking up a neighbour’s outside area, Moffat says the practice can hurt people’s lungs.  She adds both the local medical officer of health and fire chief oppose open burning.  Council is considering allowing the practice, which is only allowed in rural parts of the community, city-wide.
