Fentanyl bill up for second reading in legislature this week…

A Private Members Bill that was introduced by Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli will come up for Second Reading in the Ontario Legislature on Thursday. The Safeguarding Our Communities Act would implement a Fentanyl return policy, giving doctors greater control over Fentanyl patches.

The Fentanyl Patch 4 Patch policy is already successfully running in communities including North Bay. Patients wanting to renew their prescription must turn in their used patches.

Fentanyl patches are often sold illicitly by drug addicts for a large amount of money. Eleven people have died from overdoses of Fentanyl in North Bay since 2007.
