All front line officers in North Bay are getting Tasers. A total of 20 brand new Tasers have been purchased by the police service, and training will begin this month.
Chief Paul Cook says the Tasers will allow officers to have a safer means of dealing with people who are being violent, or suicidal. Officers must also be retrained on the Tasers every years.
The Taser X2 the North Bay Police officers are going to be equipped with are bright yellow, so they can easily be spotted by a suspect as a scare tactic. They also have a ‘2 shot’ option, meaning they are equipped with 2 tasers in one model.
