Council to pay for doctor recruitment

They don’t like it, but North Bay council is putting up $525,000 over three years to attract doctors to the city.  Councillor Mark King says it’s a sad time when local taxpayers have to pay for a provincial responsibility and most councillors agree.

Daryl Vaillancourt says it’s time to start pushing the province on re-assuming its responsibility in this area.  Councillor Mike Anthony agrees and says there will soon be a motion coming back to council that puts the ball back in the province’s court when it comes to doctor recruitment.

The hospital will match the city’s annual contribution of $175,000 for the next three years.
