The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is warning people that a Blue Green Algae Bloom has formed on Wasi Lake. Residents on private water systems in Chisholm are asked to avoid drinking, cooking, bathing or swimming in the water.
Boiling it will not kill the toxins. People should also be cautious about eating fish caught in the water. If ingested the toxins can cause vomiting and nervous system damage in severe cases.
The algae can also cause a skin rash. If skin contact does occur, wash immediately with clean water.
