LHIN puts North Bay hospice on hold for re-evaluation

The Local Health Integration Network never expected this.  It`s received two great proposals from North Bay to create a 10-bed hospice in the community.

One project is from the group, North Bay and Area Community Hospice.  It`s spokesman, Chris Winrow says the quality of both proposals has forced the LHIN to re-think how to approve a hospice for the city.

He says the local project is in a holding pattern until the LHIN gets a better feel of what community wants.  Winrow says he has no idea when the final approval will come down.

But once it does, he says the North Bay and Area Community Hospice could open in less than a year.  It would occupy a surplus spot at the local health centre and operate totally independent of the hospital.

As for the proposed area, it`s currently housed by patients.  But Winrow says there`s a plan to move this group to other parts of the hospital.
