A community celebration will take place this Sunday to mark the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain’s passage in the Nipissing area.
Residents and visitors are invited to gather at Champlain Park at noon. There will be a plaque unveiling, as well as booths set up offering information about Champlain’s arrival.
Mayor Al McDonald, MP Jay Aspin, and MPP Vic Fedeli have all confirmed that they will be in attendance. Champlain was the first European explorer to document a visit to the Nipissing region.
