City receiving plenty of backlash from new water meter billing structure

Residents in North Bay are voicing their concerns about the new water meter billing structure. There has been plenty of backlash on social media, with people saying their bills are on pace to jump dramatically now that they are being charged by usage.

Mayor Al McDonald says there could be a few reasons your bill appears higher than normal. Water consumption is the highest in July and August, and people should instead compare their water meter bills dating back to January to get a more accurate figure. You could also have a leak. If you do, it will say on your online profile the word “continuous”, meaning that water is continuously flowing.

North Bay’s water system costs $21,000,000 a year, and McDonald says they are not looking to make any more or less than that with the new billing structure. Water meter billing comes into effect on September 1st.
