NDP MPP’s from Northern Ontario are banding together to form a bear reporting line. They’ve created a website called www.northernbearreport.com so people can report and post pictures of bear sightings.
Nickel Belt MPP France Gelinas says the reports will then be sent to the minister of natural resources. Gelinas says the goal is to show the minister that the bear problem in the north is real.
The New Democrat says bears belong in the forests and not in our backyards. Gelinas says if the best we can do is to have police shoot the bears when they come into a community, then we`ve failed.
She says what`s needed to reduce bears coming into neighbourhoods is proper government funding.
