Two COVID-19 cases confirmed at Chippewa Secondary, no outbreak declared

The Near North District School Board have confirmed that there have been two individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 at Chippewa Secondary School.

The first case was announced on Sunday as one of two new cases in the region. The second case was confirmed on Monday morning.

According to the Government of Ontario, the criteria to declare an outbreak includes:

“Two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in students and/or staff in a school with an epidemiological link, within a 14-day period, where at least one case could have reasonably acquired their infection in the school (including transportation and before or after school care).

An outbreak has not been declared at Chippewa Secondary School as “the cases do not have an epidemiological link, meaning they are not a part of the same class or cohort and transmission took place outside the school,” the Health Unit stated.
