North Bay OPP made one arrest for impaired driving as part of a traffic initiative run on Highway 11.
Last Friday, the OPP, Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team, SAVE (Snowmobile, All-Terrain Vehicle and Vessel Enforcement) Team and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Enforcement Officers conducted a traffic initiative on Highway 11, near Sand Dam Road, Merrick Township.
At 11:40 am, police chose a driver to take a mandatory alcohol screening which they failed. It resulted in the arrest of a 58-year old man from Laurentian Valley Township for impaired driving.
The man has been released on an Undertaking and will appear in provincial court on December 15.
It is the 41st driver to be charged for impaired by North Bay OPP this year.
In addition to the arrest, police checked 1,200 vehicles as part of the traffic initiative resulting in two drug charges, 73 alcohol screenings, and seven vehicles being taken out of service.
OPP Constable Shona Camirand says that the numbers are relatively low, which is a good sign.
“The fact that the numbers aren’t that high is great. The fact that the public was abiding by the laws is awesome,” she said.
