65 out of work as Metso Minerals closes in North Bay

Metso Minerals Manufacturing in North Bay is closing, and over 60 North Bay-ites are now out of a job. 

The company decided to discontinue factory operations in North Bay, and production will be ramped down by the end of the first half of 2021. The closure will affect a total of approximately 65 employees. 

“We are continuously developing our global supply footprint to ensure sustainable and profitable growth. To close a factory is a hard but necessary decision, and we realize that it will have implications on our employees. We will work to support them through the transition,” says Sami Takaluoma, President, Consumables business area at Metso Outotec.

The company says it will utilize the existing North and Central American manufacturing footprint to serve customers.

Metso Outotec business is sustainable technologies; solutions and services for the aggregates, minerals processing, metals refining and recycling industries globally.

The North Bay unit produces rubber and poly-met wear parts used in the mining industry.
