American family caught violating Quarantine Act

Two Americans have been charged for violating the quarantine protocols in Chisholm Township.

North Bay OPP responded to the complaint of a possible breaking of quarantine on Wednesday. An investigation found that the family had crossed the border into Canada from the United States on Monday.

With the help of Public Health Agency Canada and Canada Border Services Agency, the two people from Pennsylvania (47 & 48 years old) were charged with Failing to Comply with Conditions upon Entering Canada under section 58 of the Quarantine Act. They were both issued a Provincial Offence Notice with a set fine of $1000 plus costs and surcharges.

The other three members of the family were adult children and were given warnings by police.

Constable Shona Camirand says that at least one of the family members had a connection to Canada, but they were all residents of Pennsylvania.

Under the Quarantine Act, travellers entering Canada must isolate inside for at least 14 days with no exceptions.
