City gets less provincial money

The city has received slightly less money from the federal government through the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF).

Municipalities across Ontario receive annual federal funding through the OMPF, with the 2021 fund worth over $500 million which is being distributed to 389 municipalities.

This year, the City of North Bay received $10,094,200… $113,000 less than last year’s grant.

Deputy Mayor Tanya Vrebosch says the drop in funding will have an impact on the city’s budget.

“Obviously, we’re disappointed that the fund went down. It’s going to put negative pressure on our operating budget,” she said. “I’m interested to see what the staff analysis looks like.”

Vrebosch says that city staff are working on figuring out why this year’s funding is slightly lower than last year’s.
