Second wave of COVID-19 is here: Health Unit

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) says that the region is now in the second wave of COVID-19.

Dr. Jim Chirico, the region’s Medical Officer of Health issued a statement after two more positive cases of COVID-19 were reported on Thursday.

“Our community has done well; we should be proud of ourselves. We’ve made many sacrifices and I know we’re all tired,” said Dr. Chirico. “However, with the number of cases steadily

rising in the province and more being seen within our district, now is not the time to relax. We have to continue to keep our community safe and open.”

Thursday marks the second straight day with multiple positive cases being reported and the fourth day in a row with a positive diagnosis.

Both of Thursday’s cases are in people between the ages of 20 and 39. One is listed as community spread while the other is under investigation. Both are in the Nipissing District.

The Health Unit says the eight cases reported in the past week is the highest amount of positive tests received since April.

As of Thursday, there have been 56 total positive cases since the beginning of the pandemic, with seven currently active. One person has died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began in the spring.
