COVID-19 case reported at Canadore College

A member of Canadore College has tested positive for COVID-19.

The college is not revealing if the person is a student or staff member, but ensures the individual has not been on-campus.

As a result, the college says there is no evidence of on-campus transmission of COVID-19, and on-campus activity will continue.

“On behalf of the college community, I wish a speedy recovery to the person affected,” said Canadore President George Burton. “The health and safety of everyone remains our number one priority, and we all have a role to play to protect ourselves and our colleagues.”

It is the first case of the virus reported by Canadore this academic year. The college has been making efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, requiring anyone coming to campus to self-screen beforehand and wear a face mask while at the facilities. Enhanced cleaning measures have also been implemented.

The positive case comes as the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit sees a spike in regional cases, with eight recorded in the past week.

Per the Health Unit, out-of-town students at Nipissing University or Canadore College who test positive for COVID-19 in the region get counted toward the local numbers.
