COVID-19 case reported at Canadore College

Canadore College is reporting someone in its community tested positive for COVID-19.

The school learned of the case on Monday. It is the second reported case at the college this year.

The person contracted the virus through close contact with another case. All close contacts have been notified and the person is now self-isolating.

Canadore confirms that the person was on the aviation campus last week, but there is no evidence of on-campus transmission.

The college is not stating whether the case is in a staff member or student; however, the past four cases of COVID-19 reported by the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit have been under the age of 19.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit issued a statement on the newest diagnosis.  “Through case and contact management, high-risk close contacts have been contacted by the Health Unit and are currently self-isolating. Individuals who have not been contacted by the Health Unit are deemed low risk. Low-risk individuals are asked to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19. If they develop symptoms of COVID-19 they are to self-isolate immediately and contact an assessment centre to be tested. The public is reminded to follow COVID-19 public health measures,” the Health Unit stated.
