What could have been a sad ending became a routine police call thanks to Project Lifesaver.
Late last week, an elderly person with dementia was reported missing during the evening, and North Bay Police officers were able to find them in just five minutes.
That’s thanks to a partnership between the North Bay Police and BAYSAR, who brought Project Lifesaver to the community.
The Project Lifesaver transmitter attaches to at-risk seniors wrist or ankle, which can be tracked through radio signal unique to each person.
BAYSAR president, Stan French, says what happened last week was exactly what was expected to happen.
“Just over a year ago I first presented this concept to the NBPS board and here we are, a year later, it’s in place, and the first client has been rescued in very short order,” said French. “Since [the officers] were able to find the client so quickly, volunteers from BAYSAR didn’t even need to be deployed. The system works and at this time of year the rapid rescue really could have been a life saver.”
