OPP charge 62nd impaired driver this year

A 20-year old man is facing multiple charges after being stopped by police over the weekend. 

On Sunday evening, North Bay OPP received complaints of a possible impaired driver on John Street near Mattawa. Officers located the vehicle on Highway 17 and stopped it in Papineau-Cameron Township. 

Police spoke with the driver and arrested him at the scene before bringing him back to the detachment for further testing. 

The North Bay man is being charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – No License contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and
  • Drive Motor Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available contrary to section 12(1) of the Cannabis Control Act 2017.

The man’s vehicle has been impounded for seven days, and his license has been suspended for 90. 

The man will appear in provincial court on January 12. 

The OPP will continue to hold RIDE programs in the area until January 3 as part of its Festive RIDE season.
