Police search for vehicle that left crash scene

North Bay OPP is searching for a car that police say fled the scene of a two-vehicle crash earlier in the month.

On December 19, police responded to the crash at the Highway 11/17 bypass and Algonquin Avenue.

Police say an SUV was stopped at the light in the intersection when it was hit from behind by another car. The two drivers got out of their vehicles to assess the damage of the crash before the driver of the car assisted the injured SUV driver back to their vehicle.

As the driver of the car went to get his documents, police say he drove away from the scene, crossing three lanes of traffic before heading south into the city.

The driver of the SUV was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are looking for a black or grey four-door sedan with a male driver around 30-years old with a short beard, possibly black hair and a red winter jacket and toque. They add there is possible damage to the front-end of the passenger side of the car, with a possible cracked headlight and a possible dent in the hood.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this collision to contact the North Bay OPP at (705) 495-3878 or toll-free at 1-888-310-1122.  Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can also submit information online at www.nearnorthcrimestoppers.com. Being anonymous, you will not be required to testify in court and information you provide may lead to a cash reward of up to $2,000.
