Police lay charges in homicide investigation

One person is facing murder charges following the death of a man early New Years Day. 

Police say during a party on Gormanville Road, the suspect assaulted two women, both of whom needed medical attention. 

Police say the suspect left the party and began walking down Jane Street where he met another man.

During a verbal altercation, police say the suspect took out what they describe as an “edged weapon”, and caused injuries to the man.

The man later died in hospital. 

A 20-year-old man from Orleans, Ontario is facing:

  • One Count of Second Degree Murder;
  • One Count of Utter Threat to Cause Death;
  • One Count of Assault with a Weapon; and
  • Two Counts of Assault.

The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.

The police investigation is continuing with the help of forensic units, canine units and the Ontairo Provincial Police.
