OCHU calls on province to take action over hospital cuts in North Bay

The president of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions is calling on the province to increase funding to North Bay’s hospital.

The North Bay Regional Health Centre announced earlier this week that they will be cutting 158 full time positions, and an estimated 30 beds. In a release, Michael Hurley says that readmission rates at North Bay’s hospital are spiking because of the provincial funding freeze.

According to Hurley, this is a sign the hospital is pushing out patients before they are well, and funding needs to change. He says it’s time to consider taking protests to a new level if the province doesn’t take action now.
