Three men charged for gathering during lockdown

Three people are facing charges after not following rules set out by the province during the pandemic lockdown.

John Schultz, Community Safety Coordinator for the North Bay Police Service, says that earlier this morning police got a call about an argument between a landlord and a tenant at a Beverly Street residence in North Bay.

While dealing with the situation an officer identified three individuals that don’t live at the residence and therefore are violating the Reopening Ontario Act. All three men were issued Province Offence Notices for participating in a social gathering during the pandemic lockdown. The notices are $880 each.

“Since the beginning of the pandemic police, for the most part, have opted for an educational approach in dealing with individuals who are in violation of the requirements under the Reopening of Ontario Act to keep our citizens safe,” says ice Chief Scott Tod. “We are now in a provincial pandemic lockdown and although we ask for your continued support in following these regulations, this incident is a reminder that our officers can and will enforce the laws to keep our community safe. We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to the overwhelming majority of you who have abided by the restrictions put in place to prevent the spread of the virus and save lives.”
