Health Unit declares COVID-19 outbreak at Powassan retirement home

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Eastholme Home for the Aged in Powassan.

The Health Unit says a staff member tested positive for the virus. According to provincial guidelines, an outbreak is declared when a single resident or staff member tests positive in a retirement resident or long term care facility.

The Health Unit states the person is currently in isolation and individuals who are high-risk contacts have been contacted and are self-isolating.

“Our staff are working with Eastholme to provide important public health direction,” said Dr. Jim Chirico Medical Officer of Health. “It is critical that we continue to follow public health measures to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and help save lives.”

Both cases are in people between 20 and 39 years of age.
