Fedeli urging local businesses to apply for provincial grant

Vic Fedeli, Nipissing MPP, is encouraging any small businesses that have had to limit operations due to the provincial lockdown to apply for a new government grant.

The portal for the Small Business Relief Program officially opened Friday, providing up to $20,000 to eligible small businesses.

“This is an extremely vital program,” said Fedeli. “It’ll provide small businesses with support during these challenging times.”

Fedeli said he and his government began working on the program when they knew a second shutdown was looming.

“As soon as we knew we had to go to a second lockdown, we knew there were further supports that were going to be needed by the community,” Fedeli said.

Businesses that have had to restrict operations due to the provincial lockdown are eligible for between $10,000 and $20,000 through a one-time grant.

Eligible businesses must also show at least a 20 percent revenue decrease in April 2020 compared to April 2019.

Peter Chirico, president and CEO of the North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce also recommends area businesses apply for the grant, adding the chamber can assist with the application process.
