Chisholm Township to get improved internet

The Township of Chisholm will be getting some improved broadband internet.

MPP Vic Fedeli announced Wednesday a $425,000 infrastructure project will upgrade broadband internet connectivity to 200 homes and businesses in the Township.

Just over $267,000 is being invested by the province, with $127,000 coming from Spectrum Group and almost $30,000 being contributed by the municipality.

“Reliable broadband service is certainly needed for life in the 21st century and today’s announcement is a step towards making broadband improvements for our rural businesses, families and individuals”, said MPP Fedeli. “Now, more than ever, the residents of Chisholm are relying on internet to access services, working from home and connecting with their loved ones.”

The mayor of Chisholm Township, Gail Degagne, says the town is thrilled to be getting improved internet service.

“Broadband is a priority with Council and staff, especially now with the pandemic.  There is an increase of people working from home and students doing online learning which has made high-speed internet an essential service now more than ever,” she stated.

The infrastructure project is being led by the Blue Sky Economic Growth Corporation, which helps communities obtain better high-speed internet.
