The Nipissing District will be receiving over $3.3 million from the provincial government for infrastructure projects.
Of that $3.3 million, just over $2.6 million is going to the City of North Bay.
Tanya Vrebosch, deputy mayor, says the funding will go toward the numerous infrastructure projects that see construction crews all over North Bay during the summer months.
“That’s the sign of a healthy city,” she said. “You see that work being done every year in North Bay so this money here helps us continue that work.”
Vrebosch adds the proposed 2021 capital budget had already factored in the money for its projects prior to Monday’s announcement.
The money comes through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund, which gives infrastructure funding to small, rural and northern Ontario communities with less than 100,000 people. Over $200 million is being invested by the provincial government overall.
The funding is calculated using a formula to determine how much each municipality gets.
The rest of the Nipissing region’s infrastructure funding includes:
- Municipality of Callander – $76,402
- Municipality of East Ferris – $50,000
- Municipality of Powassan – $50,000
- Thorne Local Services Board – $50,000
