Agricultural and horticultural societies get provincial support

Five agricultural and horticultural societies in the area will split nearly $30,000 from the provincial government.

“These societies have a long history in the District of Nipissing,” said Nipissing MPP Fedeli. “They play a vital role in agricultural education and provide opportunities for young people across our area to learn and grow an appreciation for agriculture and horticulture. This funding will help support these societies during a difficult period so they can continue to operate and contribute to our economic recovery.”

The money is part of the Ontario government’s allocated $5 million dollars in its fall budget for agricultural and horticultural societies in rural parts of the province.

The money can be used to offset losses due to cancelled fall fairs, exhibits and other revenues affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Local recipients include:

  • $11,807 for the Powassan Agricultural Society
  • $7,707 for the Bonfield Agricultural Society
  • $7,443 for the Trout Creek Agricultural Society
  • $1,140 for the Callander Horticultural Society
  • $1,140 for the North Bay Horticultural Society
