North Bay receives over $1.1M in transit funding

North Bay is receiving over $1.1M in funding to help its transit system recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli delivered the news Monday morning.

“This is going to go towards maintaining our revenue which is significantly down due to COVID,” noted Chris Mayne, chair of the Infrastructure and Operations Committee. “It’s all about providing safe, sustainable and affordable transit for the community.”

This funding is in addition to the province’s $2 billion previously committed by Ontario and the federal government through the Safe Restart Agreement to help municipalities continue to deliver critical transit services.

“This is great news for North Bay,” said MPP Fedeli. “COVID-19 continues to impact our transit system and this additional funding will ensure local transit can continue to operate and provide a vital service for those who need it.”

Mayor Al McDonald thanked the province for it’s support.

“The City of North Bay has provided transit service throughout the pandemic and this funding with help ensure our residents have continued access to this essential service,” said the Mayor.
