Outdoor recreation cancelled to restrict gatherings, Fedeli

Vic Fedeli, Nipissing MPP, says his government’s decision to restrict outdoor recreation was done to cut down on social gatherings.

“It’s not so much about the transmission of COVID at ‘x’ event,” Fedeli told MyNorthBayNow. “The whole idea is to restrict gatherings. It’s to stay at home. It’s to play safely and participate in social gatherings safely.”

In the hours that followed Premier Ford’s announcement of the closure of basketball courts, soccer fields, golf courses and playgrounds, the province amended the regulation to allow for the use of playgrounds.

“In this particular case, we’ve amended the regulations to allow playgrounds to stay open,” Fedeli said. “It’s still really important for parents and children to continue wearing masks, to practice social distancing and basically stay safe.”

Playgrounds weren’t the only topic that was amended following Friday’s announcement. People are now required to provide their personal information if they are questioned by police during an illegal gathering.
