Toronto man flees from police, arrested at gunpoint

A Toronto man is facing a slew of charges, including pointing a firearm and flight from police, after he refused to pull over.

OPP officers pulled the man over for speeding on Sunday afternoon and during the stop, he sped off and continued southbound on Highway 11. 

He was found on the highway near Strong Township after he had struck a tractor-trailer and ended up in the ditch. 

Officers say they watched the man running down the shoulder of the highway pointing a gun at a driver in a parked vehicle.

As they approached, he fled on foot and pointed his gun at the officers. 

Police arrested the man and grabbed his gun, as well as suspected drugs and over $2,100 in cash. 

The 21-year-old was charged with:

  • Adult Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000- Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Adult Pointing a Firearm, contrary to section 87 of the (CC),
  • Adult Flight from Police, contrary to section 320.17 of the (CC),
  • Adult Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the (CC),
  • Adult uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a),
  • Adult Assault with a Weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the (CC),
  • Adult Possession of a Prohibited device Ammunition, contrary to section 92(2),
  • Adult Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, contrary to section 95(a), of the (CC),
  • Adult Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, contrary to section 95(a), of the (CC),
  • Adult Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88, of the (CC), and
  • Adult of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – other Drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA).

He is in police custody and is set to appear in bail court on April 21.
