‘Suspicious’ fire at boarded up Midas building

There’s been another fire at Midas on the 300 block of Main Street East in North Bay.

City fire crews were dispatched to the boarded up building at 2:30 this afternoon.

Fire Chief Jason Whiteley says they found brown smoke coming from the structure when they arrived on the scene.

“Somebody has been getting into the building, the security that the insurance company has put up, by boarding, was breached upon our arrival so that put us right into a search and rescue mode, we ensured that there was nobody in the building.  Right now we’re treating the fire as suspicious,” he says.

There’s no word on a cause as yet.

Crews will be on scene for a few hours before fire prevention begins the investigation.

Whiteley says the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office may be called in because of the suspicious nature of the fire.

At last check, traffic is blocked on Main Street from Sherbrooke to Regina, with Fisher shut down between McIntyre and Main.

Fire destroyed the business back in February.
