Osprey Links happy to be inching towards reopening

One local golf course is welcoming word from the provincial health minister that golf courses could be opening up in the coming weeks.

Jeff Rogerson, General Manager of Osprey Links in Callander, says he’s excited about the prospects.

“Everything is subject to change from any second, but a worst case scenario is we’re looking at June, a better case scenario is we’re looking at sooner, which would be absolutely outstanding,” He says. “I think us here at Osprey and every golf course in Ontario is ready to go.”

Rogerson says it was frustrating seeing unsupervised parks and bike paths reopened, but golf courses left closed.

“The golf courses are going to take less people and they are supervised and marshalled.  We are going to offer probably the safest environment that exists,” he says.

On Monday, Health Minister Christine Elliott said lifting restrictions right now would be irresponsible, but several types of non-team outdoor sports will be permitted on or before June 2nd, when the latest stay-at-home order is due to expire.

Health experts say such activities are safe, including the government’s own Science Advisory Table, as long as COVID-19 protocols are in place.
