Summer North Bay Farmer’s Market open during lockdown

The North Bay Farmer’s Market summer season opens this weekend.

Chair Mitch Deschatalets says all of the COVID protocols are in place with the market nearly doubled in size to allow for physical distancing.

He says it took some time last year before business picked up at the market, attributing it to the start of the pandemic.

“When peak season came in, around June, it got really, really good. I think this year it’ll start good a bit earlier than it did last year because it isn’t anything new, we’ve been in this [pandemic] for over a year now,” Deschatalets says.

He says the market will also provide more than just a shopping experience.

“It’s going to be an outing at the same time, there isn’t anything else going on and I think it’ll be a stress reliever for a lot of people,” he says.

Something new this year is craft beer sales, with two local craft breweries setting up as vendors.

“It’s not for consumption on-site due to COVID protocols, that may change in the near future.  At this time it’s just for purchasing,” Deschatalets adds.

The Saturday market runs 8:30 am to 1 pm in the parking lot behind the Transit Terminal, while the Wednesday Market goes from 10 am to 2 pm in front of the North Bay Museum.
