North Bay man facing theft and drug charges

A 32-year-old North Bay man is facing theft and drug charges after Kirkland Lake OPP says he crashed a stolen vehicle.

On Saturday police got a call regarding a suspicious person on Highway 66. Officers located him and while speaking with the accused, they determined he was responsible for a theft of a vehicle the day before. Police say the vehicle had been stolen and later involved in a single-vehicle collision in the Earlton area.

Police also found suspected Fentanyl.

The man was charged with:

  • Theft Over $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 334(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Careless Driving, contrary to section 130(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Fail to Remain, contrary to section 200(1)(a) of the HTA
  • Fail to Report Accident, contrary to section 199(1) of the HTA

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 15, 2021, in Kirkland Lake.
