Capitol Centre joins #FairnessForArtsON campaign

The Capitol Centre in North Bay is looking for fairness with the provincial reopening plan.

Dan Misturada, Interim Executive Director, says proposed live stream online concerts, often with only one musician, two technicians and no audience, are not permitted under the provincial reopening plan until sometime in July.

In a video statement, he says at that time other sectors will already be open with larger gatherings.

Misturada says the performing arts industry is asking the provincial government to review the reopening plan to address some inequities.

They have two requests.

“One – Allow concert venues and theatres to reopen for live streaming or recording without an audience as soon as the Stay- at-Home order ends,” he says.

The second request is to consult with the industry directly to establish capacity limits in steps two and three of the reopening plan.

“So that venues and presenters can plan, hire artists and staff, and sell tickets with the lead time needed In spite of our plea for regulatory fairness, as of this date no reply to our request has been received,” Misturada adds.

He says the live performing arts sector is calling on all those who care about the future of artists, performers, and live performance workers in the Province to help amplify their concerns.
