The ‘Kev’s Kids’ radio marathon in support of Rotary4Kids is ready to hit the airwaves next week.
Kevin Oschefski will be broadcasting for 29 straight hours on 106.3 Moose FM raising funds to support area children and youth with special needs.
Last year’s event was postponed because of the pandemic.
“It has been an extremely difficult year for all of us, we have felt the loneliness and the anxiety,” says Oschefski. “I think what we have to recognize is that is what a lot of these Rotary families feel all the time. If you put yourself in that mindset it’s important that we get back to doing this 29-hour radio marathon and show these kids that they have not been forgotten and it’s time to put the spotlight back on them.”
The money raised helps to purchase assistive devices, home renovations, vehicle conversions, program enrollment, cover uninsured medical costs and out-of-town travel and funding for special needs teams, and more.
The broadcast begins at 5 am on June 10th and wraps up at 10 am the next day.
The goal this year is $50,000.
New this year is the Rotary club’s first-ever online auction (www.rotary4kidsauction.ca), which will run from June 7th to the 14th.
Donations can be made online now at www.kevskids.ca and during the broadcast by calling 705-499-3109.
Rotary Club of North Bay President and Rotary4Kids Chair, Jeff Rogerson, says this is their 18th event.
“Since its inception, the radio-a-thon has raised over one million dollars for kids with special needs,” he says. “The success of this fundraiser would not be possible without the very generous support of individuals and families, and so many organizations and businesses, both large and small, in our community.”
Eleven-year-old Aidan, a Grade 6 student at Woodlands Public School, is the Rotary4Kids Ambassador this year.
